What is Clinical Psychotherapy Training?
The Clinical Year Training is the next stage for students who have completed the Foundation Year in Transactional Analysis and are ready to deepen their understanding of psychotherapy in practice. Building on the theoretical foundations established in the first year, this stage of training focuses on the development of clinical skills, therapeutic presence, and professional competence. Students explore in greater depth how psychological change occurs and how to work effectively, ethically, and relationally with clients in a therapeutic setting, integrating theory with real-world clinical practice.
What Will I Learn in Clinical Year One?
During clinical year one students will start a volunteer counselling placement and begin to gain client experience.
The first clinical year is designed for those who wish to deepen their understanding of the human condition or continue their training as psychotherapists. During this year, participants begin to develop practical skills for working with clients while building advanced theoretical knowledge of Transactional Analysis (TA).

What Will You Gain From Attending This Training?
You will have a greater understanding of the different approaches within TA and have gained multiple ways to work differently with clients. You will also have gained a sense of how the therapy journey may unfold. On top of this, you will have completed the first year of the clinical training.
Multi-Leveled Year Groups
For the clinical years, students from all three years of training learn together within a single cohort. This creates a rich and dynamic learning environment where students benefit from a diversity of perspectives, experiences, and stages of development. To ensure a supportive and engaging environment, each cohort is limited to a maximum of 12 students.
Rolling Curriculum
Our clinical programme follows a three-year rolling curriculum, allowing students to explore Transactional Analysis in depth from a range of perspectives. One year focuses on Schools of Transactional Analysis, providing a thorough grounding in the major TA approaches and theories. A second year explores Professional Practice, covering the ethical, relational, and practical aspects of working as a psychotherapist. The third year focuses on Specialisms, examining the application of TA to a variety of client groups, presenting issues, and areas of clinical interest. Together, these three strands provide a comprehensive and well-rounded training that supports both professional competence and clinical confidence.
