Professional psychotherapy training integrating Transactional Analysis with an embodied, relational and trauma-informed approach.
Psychotherapy Training with Somata
Somata provides a comprehensive psychotherapy training journey designed to support personal development and professional competence. Grounded in Transactional Analysis and enriched by relational, embodied, and trauma-informed perspectives, our programmes encourage students to integrate theory with lived experience. Through a blend of academic study, experiential learning, and clinical practice, trainees develop the insight, skills, and therapeutic presence needed to work effectively with a diverse range of clients.
Our core psychotherapy training is delivered in person near Lewes, East Sussex, creating space for the relational and experiential aspects of learning that are central to our approach.

TA101 - Introduction To Transactional Analysis
The internationally recognised TA101 is a 12-hour introduction to the foundations of Transactional Analysis. It can be taken as a stand-alone course or as a first step for those considering further TA and psychotherapy training. Somata offers TA101 both online and in person.
Foundation Certificate in Transactional Analysis
The one-year Foundation Certificate offers an immersive grounding in Transactional Analysis theory, integrated with Somata's embodied and experiential approach. It can be taken as a stand-alone year of learning and also provides the theoretical grounding for progression into clinical psychotherapy training.
Clinical Year One
Clinical Year One develops the transition from foundational TA learning into deeper clinical training, with increasing attention to therapeutic relationship, psychological process and the integration of theory into practice.
During this year, when ready, students may start a counselling volunteer placement.
Clinical Year Two
Clinical Year Two continues the development of clinical understanding and relational capacity, supporting students to deepen their use of Transactional Analysis and embodied awareness within therapeutic practice.
Once a student has met the necessary criteria, they are able to start working with private clients as a trainee psychotherapist.

An Embodied Approach to Psychotherapy Training
At Somata, embodiment is woven throughout every aspect of our training. Alongside learning how to work therapeutically with the body, students are invited to learn through embodied and experiential methods that bring theory to life. Through reflection, relational practice, movement, mindfulness, and experiential exercises, trainees develop a deeper understanding of themselves and others, integrating knowledge not only intellectually but also through lived experience. This approach supports the development of attuned, grounded, and effective practitioners who can work with the whole person -mind, body, and relationship.
UKCP Accredited Psychotherapy Training
Somata is currently in the process of applying to become a UKATA Registered Training Institute. Once approved, this will enable students completing Somata’s professional training pathway to become eligible for UKCP accreditation as psychotherapists.
Our professional programme is a Level 7 qualification that meets the standards for SCoPEd Column C. The SCoPEd framework is the profession’s recognised benchmark for training and competence, helping to identify the depth and quality of a therapist’s education and clinical practice. Column C represents the highest level within the framework, reflecting advanced training, extensive supervised practice, and preparation for senior practitioner roles within the psychotherapy profession.
Where Does the Psychotherapy Training Take Place?
